Wow, being in Downtown Guelph again has really opened our eyes to all the great activities that happen here on a regular basis. They seem to run all summer long and the city & the DGBA have put together an amazing schedule of events once again this year.
This upcoming weekend is the 12th Annual Art on the Street event that runs the entire length of Quebec St. all Saturday long. There are a number of activities and art exhibitions; with the overwhelming majority of the work up for sale. Both the exhibitors and downtown store owners combine to offer the premier opportunity for art lovers to shop local and improve their collection, a few pieces at a time! From the new ping-pong table outside Capistrano to regular movie nights in the Market Square, Downtown has gone to great lengths to become an ideal family destination. The movie bill for the rest of the summer includes Indiana Jones, Toy Story and Ghostbusters; all great choices for a night out with the kids. For sports fans, there’s even a bonus World Cup party on July 13th for the final match. The screen at Market Square will air the match and admission is free for that event as well. The full rundown of Market Square events is available online here as well.
Once again, Downtown Guelph is running its Noon Hour Concert Series throughout the summer in St. George’s Square. The popular series features artists and groups with local ties and is free to attend courtesy of RBC. On Friday the 11th, Nicole Christian and Alfie Smith take the stage, so be sure to take your lunch break to the square and enjoy the show.
More and more, it seems, there’s never a dull moment downtown. With Downtown Guelph as a destination, we’re all in for an absolute treat.
